  • The fields will be located in an isolated portion of Walden Woods, cut off from the main parcel by Route 2, the railroad track, the Bristers Hill neighborhood and the school bus depot (site of a former open burning dump)
  • The 8 ½ acre of affected woods accounts for less than one third of one percent of the 2,600 acres in Walden Woods
  • In November 2006, the Concord Historical Society stated : “We… concluded that the portion of woods slated for playing fields is not of great value as an historic landscape since it already has been significantly disturbed”

  • The land was purchased for school use at Town Meeting in 1955. The land is an important component of the High School Master Plan. The Regional High School Committee considers playing fields to be the highest and best use of this parcel.
