- The 1987 Comprehensive Long Range Plan identified an urgent need for new fields. None were built since that study; for that matter, none have been built in 40 years
- Title IX, a federal law preventing discrimination against girls and women in education and sports, as well as other factors, have resulted in large numbers of girls playing competitive sports
- The important practice of resting fields was abandoned many years ago, as the demand for playing space far outstripped the fields we had available.
